OOTD #2

This morning (or more like afternoon) I woke up and peeked out of the curtains to see what the weather was like today. I promptly groaned at how hot and sunny it looked. While I like nice weather and actually seeing some sun for a change, I hate it when it's too hot to do anything.

Therefore I dressed accordingly.

Top - Topshop, Skirt - Dorothy Perkins, Shoes - Accessorize
The only reason I was in any way happy about the weather was that it gave me an excuse to wear my new skirt - I really love the chevron pattern and as I'm quite tall I think the midi length works quite well. My friend had given me a gift card for Dorothy Perkins last birthday, and as this was already in the 30% off range I only actually had to spend £1.50 of my own money on it. I like that it's black and white because it makes it a lot easier to wear with things. Plus the swishyness means I can do this with it:

The shoes are basically just ballet pumps, but being a magpie I love anything shiny. I used to have a pair of these in a coral colour and I wore them pretty much all summer long until they wore out, and I've never found a pair of pumps that fit me better. I quite like the rose gold colour too, I'm not a fan of it on jewelery, but for metallic footwear I'm a fan.

The crop top is something that if you told me I'd wear a few months ago I'd have laughed in your face. Pretty much every year at about this time, when summer clothing gets more revealing I tend to go through a bit of a body confidence crisis. That is, until this year. Previously I've always felt very self conscious about my midriff, but since getting more involved and informed about the feminist movement, I'm certainly starting to embrace a 'f*** it' attitude to what I 'should' wear and what I 'shouldn't'. I like the style, and I shouldn't let anyone's opinions on my appearance stop me from experimenting with fashion, especially my own.

Anyway, that's all for today. I went out shopping and bought quite a few things, so I'll make a few posts about that in the next few days.

OOTD and Welcome!

Hello, my name is Charlotte, and after much deliberation, I've decided to start a blog.

One of my favourite parts of my day is getting ready, and I put a lot of time and effort into my outfits, so I decided it would be nice to record them in the form of this blog. I also really enjoy photography and have been meaning to get back into it for a while, and I thought this might encourage me to dust off my camera and get snapping.

I thought for my first outfit on this blog I'd need something a little special, so I went for this - a dress I made myself! I love sewing and I brought my sewing machine up with me to uni, but again I very rarely make time for it. I love Tilly and the Buttons and I'm a huge fan of a lot of the stuff she makes, so I decided to buy one of her patterns - the Coco dress.

The fabric I found was a little bit thin for what I needed, but it was so pretty that I got it anyway, and it actually sewed pretty well. The pattern itself is really easy to make and comes with a step by step guide to help you, and there's also loads of advice on her blog. I really love this dress - it's simple but effective and so comfy to wear. I've read that a lot of people make theirs as a nightdress, and I'm tempted to give that a go.
